Dox^2 Makes A Great Global Warming Point
dox^2 has a great post about global warming.
I often ask people why North America is no longer covered in ice. It once was, you know. And apparently it thawed out before Lewis and Clark made their famous expedition. And I'm pretty sure they weren't using petrochemical fueled conveyances.
Is man having an impact? Most likely. Is it enough to make me think that if we stopped using cars altogether, and stopped all of our factories, we'd suddenly Save Our Planet? Not likely.
And the Kyoto Accord would merely transfer wealth from countries that can afford to buy credits to third-world countries, all the while leaving China, the world's worst polluter, exempt.

"And the Kyoto Accord would merely transfer wealth from countries that can afford to buy credits to third-world countries" And we sure wouldn't wanna transfer wealth to starving children in 3rd world countries now would we? I have to admit their governments would probably spend it stockpiling AK's and Rpg's, but I get the impression that the thought of helping helping out 3rd world countries disgusts you (wich, considering the message on your banner, is kinda ironic).

I'd rather teach them to fish than give them a fish. And please don't come here with "it's for the children" because we see right through that.
" And please don't come here with "it's for the children" because we see right through that.." yeah you saw right through it all right, out of sight is out of mind after all.
It has a nice positive focus, and it dosn't attempt to distract people from the fact that you have no counter argument to my previous comment. :P
How am I supposed to provide a counter-argument to such a general, hysterical assertion? :)
So lets take a look at a boring and often repeated statistic "According to UNICEF, 30,000 children die each day due to poverty." now you may or may not think this is a hysterical assumption or not, but wether the statistic is true or not, i've seen photographs of it, i've seen video footage of it, and more importantly I know someone who has gone over there as a volunteer nurse and seen it with their own eyes.
Now to prove my histerical assertion, allot of these kids Don't have enough clean water. Corporations have poisened the water (and the ground too), and corporations also own allot of the water and thus own the fish in the water.
I admit that saying 'your' corporations is stupid and wrong, and for that I apologise.
Now for the part of my argument that you ignored, apart from the fact that I've established that knowing how to fish would not actualy help these people, I would also like to point out these people people probably do know how to fish, hunt, and farm, and that even if they didn't they'd be able to figure it out on their own because "Sometimes it isn't until you take action that you realize the ability, talent, and greatness within. -- TJ Hoisington" knowing these things is not enough, because they do not have the resources to get started.
In conclusion, if we want to get these people in a position to help themselves, it's gonna cost money. I'm all for creating self sutaining communities, but I also acknowledge they need a helping hand.
